Wireless Broadband FAQ
What is Broadband?
Broadband Internet access is typically defined as having connection speeds of
200 Kbps or faster to the Internet. Examples of broadband technologies include
DSL, Cable, Satellite and Wireless.
What is Wireless Broadband?
This method of Internet connectivity is accomplished using low power Microwave
radios to transfer the data over the airwaves, instead of current wired technologies.
This technology is fast becoming the standard in providing service to
areas currently not served by conventional methods.
Is Wireless-Broadband the same as "satellite" Internet?
No, wireless broadband uses ground-based antennas to transmit data to your home
or business, while satellite systems usually require you to use a phone line
and modem to send data. Also, satellite systems have a high "latency" (the time
it takes data to travel between 2 points) since the data has to travel from your
location up to the satellite 23,500 miles away and back down again twice, making
VPN's and gaming unreliable. The time delay is nearly a full second in satellite
transmission. Our systems don't suffer from this delay.
Is NTINET providing service in my area?
We are currently serving the towns of Bowman, Cameron,
Elloree, Eutawville, Holly Hill, Providence, Reevesville and Santee.
How do I qualify for NTINET's Wireless Broadband service?
To be eligible for our service you must reside within our coverage area of the town we provide service. Your location needs to receive adequate signal
strength from one of our transmission antennas.
A few things can affect the strength of your signal like trees, buildings and
hills. We will determine if you are eligible at the time of installation.
How fast will my connection be?
Bandwidth options range anywhere between 1.0 Mbps and 10 Mbps**. NTInet can also create a customized broadband solution to meet your needs.

Is it secure?
The Internet is a shared resource and therefore, not a completely secure medium. As
a consequence, even dialup users are susceptible to outside attacks by hackers. NTINET
has taken several steps to increase the transmission security surrounding our
wireless customers use and enjoyment of the Internet.
Is the signal affected by the weather?
Theoretically no. However, a slight degradation in transmission rates may occur
during periods of heavy rain and very high winds that could pose the
possibility of de-aligning antennas.
Can I hook up more than one computer to my Internet connection?
Yes. Our Broadband wireless service will support multiple computers. Additional
equipment will probably be required such as an inexpensive DSL Router and a hub
or switch.
